Add Product

Add a product to your catalog.

Go to Catalog > Products > Add Product. Here you will be able to add a product one by one. Required fields will be outlined in red.

Field Descriptions

  • Product Name (Required): Give your product a name. By default this field is used as the primary product name or title which will appear with the item on the products page, checkout page, and various other pages where product information is displayed.

  • SKU (Required): This is your unique product number. This can be numeric, alpha, or alpha numeric. If you are reselling products this would be the item number provided by your vendor or wholesaler.

  • Slug: Create a slug for this item. A slug is the part of the URL that uniquely identifies a page and it's in a format that is easily readable by both users and search engines. A 'slug' is the part that comes at the very end of a URL, and refers to a specific page or post.

  • UPC: If you have a UPC (Universal Product Code) for this product you can enter it here. If you need to create a UPC for your product you can learn more about UPC's and register for a company prefix at https://www.gs1us.org/.

  • Mfg Part #: In some cases you may have a manufacturer assigned part number also (often when reselling products and sourcing them through a distributor or wholesaler). You can enter that part number here.

  • Stock Qty: You can enter your current stock here manually if you choose. This can be displayed on the products detail page if you choose.

  • UoM ID: This is the two digit unit of measure. Examples are EA, CA, PK, BX, CS, BD, RL, PR.

  • UoM Qty: This is how many individual units come within your Unit of Measure. For example EA (Each) would typically equal 1. PK (Pack) could be any number of individual units sold within the pack. For example a pack or 6 pencils.

  • UoM Description: This is the full written description of the unit of measure. For example Each = (EA), Case = (CA), Pack = (PK), Box = (BX), CS = (Case), BD = (Bundle), RL = (Roll), PR = (Pair).

  • Category: Add the item to a category. By clicking on edit it will take you to the Categories modal. You can search for a category you have created to add the item to. An item does not require a category however.

Add Product Button

Once you have completed at minimum the required fields click on the "Add Product" button. This will add the product to your catalog. You can then edit as needed. Once the product is added to the catalog the "Add Product" button will change to the "Update Product" button.

After a new product is added you will also notice that a new header tab will appear called View Product. This lets you know you are now looking at a product that is part of your catalog and can be edited. If you click on the Add Product Tab you can add another product.

Upload Image Button

Click on the upload image button to add an image to your product. VendorFuel uses the WordPress Media Library to add images. You can drag and drop an image which will upload it to the media library or you can search existing images by clicking on the Media Library tab.

Pricing, Details, Attributes, Parcels, and Misc Tabs

You will see five sub-tabs on the header tabs Add Product or View Product. They are Pricing, Details, Attributes, Parcels, and Misc. Here is how each works.

Pricing

Here is where you add an item to a price sheet. PLEASE NOTE A PRODUCT WILL NOT APPEAR ON YOUR SITE UNLESS IT HAS A PRICE (meaning it must be on at least one price sheet).

  1. Click on the "Add Price Sheet" button. The Price Sheet dialog will appear. Here you can pick a price sheet or sheets to add a product to or remove a product from. You can search for a price sheet or scroll through. Pick the sheet(s) you would like it added to. The added sheets will highlight in green.

  2. Click the "Confirm" button.

  3. You will now see the price sheet name(s) listed on the main tab.

  4. Type in the price you want to sell the product for and click the "Add Product" button or the "Update Product" button depending on if the product has been saved yet or not.

Details

Here you can add a long description of your product, recycled content if any, a brand name, add keywords, or add the item to a manufacturer group. You will also be able to see what images are attached to this product if any have been upload and attached.

  • Recycled Content: You have the option to leave this blank, select yes, or no. If you select yes you can also add a number which represent the % of recycled content in your product.

  • Manufacturer: If you click on edit the Manufacturers modal will appear. Here you can add an item to a designated manufacturer group.

  • Brand: Some items may be part of a manufacturers brand. You can include a brand name here as another optional differentiation for your product.

  • Keywords: Here you can add keywords for your product. These will be useful when a customer is searching for your product on your site. Keywords help identify and a shopper find what they are looking for. You can add as many keywords as you like each separated by a comma.

  • Product Description: Here you can add a long description of your product.

Click on the "Add Product" button or the "Update Product" button depending on if the product has been saved yet or not to save your changes.

  • Attributes: Here you can add specific attributes about a product. Things like size, color, product made of, what the package includes, etc. These can be displayed on the products detail page and use to add additional sorting options. You can add as many attributes as you want by clicking the "Add Attribute" button. Attributes have two fields.

    • Name: This is the name of the field like Size, Color, etc.

    • Data: This is the actual attribute like Large or Red.

    • You can remove an attribute anytime by clicking the "Remove Attribute" button

    Click on the "Add Product" button or the "Update Product" button depending on if the product has been saved yet or not to save your changes.

  • Parcels: Parcels allows you to define a weight for a product in pounds or kilograms. By defining a parcel you can utilize real time shipping calculators which require at minimum a weight to provide an estimated shipping price.

    • Add Parcels: The "Add Parcels" button will open the Parcels modal where you can pick a defined parcel type to add it to. Please see Parcels documentation for further information on defining a parcel.

  • Misc: This tab is another area to add differentiation to your product. Here is a definition of each field.

    • Avalara Tax Code: If you are using Avalara for Sales Tax Calculation you can define a tax code (based on item type) for the item that will be relayed to Avalara. Learn more about Avalara here, https://www.avalara.com/

    • Recyclable: This is another area to flag a recycled product and the % of it that is recycled. In some states the recognize post consumer recycled content and total recycled content. This gives you two areas to capture this data.

    • Related: You can add related products here by adding the product ID of the related product and separating each ID with a comma.

    • Alternates: You can add alternate products here by adding the product ID of the alternate product and separating each ID with a comma.

    • Model: If your product has a specific model type or ID you can add it here.

    • AbilityOne SKU: This is only relevant if you are selling to the federal government throught the GSA program. Some items sold to the government and manufactured as part of the AbilityOne Program will have a uniqure ID. Learn more here, https://www.abilityone.gov/

    • Hazmat: If your product has Hazmat details or a Hazmat ID you can enter it here.

    • Includes: You can describe what is included with the product here.

    • Rebate: You flag a specific item as eligible for a rebate. You can define rebates in Catalog > Promo Codes. See Promo Codes for more details.

    • Country: Refers to the country of origin or where the product is made. This is typically a two letter entry like US (United States), UK (United Kingdom), etc.

    • Device: This field is often used for tech items but can be used as another open field. Let's say your product is a piece to a larger product or device. You can identify what it is part of here. This can be an alpha or numeric or alpha numeric field.

    • Family: If you product is part of a larger family of products you can identify that here. This can be an alpha or numeric or alpha numeric field.

    • MSDS: MSDS stand for Material Safety Data Sheet. If you sell certain products that have chemicals or other potential toxins in them you may need to provide a MSDS. By selecting Yes in this field an icon will appear showing a MSDS is available.

    • Prop 65: This is only currently required in the State of CA. Proposition 65 requires the state to maintain and update a list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. Select yes in this field and put in a warning message about the product. You can learn more about what messages are required here, https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65.
